Bharti Airtel has become the first Telecom user to introduce 'Ultra-Fast 4G' services to Andaman and Nicobar - its fiber connection service released today. The fiber link will be a game changer in the region and unlock the true power of 4G and even 5G in the future for customers, reported Zee Business' Daanish Anand, citing the company's chairman Sunil Mittal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the underwater Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) program, which links Chennai and Port Blair, on Monday, via videoconferencing. The submarine cable will connect Port Blair with Saraj Dweep (Haslock), Little Andaman, Car Nicobar, Kamorta, Great Nicobar, Long Island and Rangat.

"We thank the Honorable Prime Minister for taking the time to implement this important digital infrastructure," Mittal said.

"The new link shows the core of the digital revolution in India as this infrastructure reaches a beautiful island," the chairman said. "We hope that the Telecom Department will speed up the deployment of USOF by building such infrastructure to meet the efforts of telecommunications operators to prevent digital segregation," he said.

Airtel launched its fastest 4G services in the Andaman and Nicobar circles following the announcement of a link between the Cananai and Andaman subdivisions and the Nicobar Islands (CANI) on Monday.

 Airtel said it was the first private company Telecom to provide services in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and had started services back in 2005.

In the LCO model, Airtel said it would manage the billing, planning, customer relationships and the final mile frame managed by the local cable operator where it receives the budget.
