Suggested Instagram post brings an endless stream of new photos
If you use Instagram as a way to view photo inspiration, you can be happy to know that the service is releasing a new feature of "Suggestions" that brings an endless stream of photos and videos tailored to your interests.
Previously, scrolling to the "end" of your Instagram feed would show a "All Greetings" notification before entering the old post you've seen before. With the new feature of the suggested post, the old posts in your feed will now be hidden behind the "View Old Post" link under that information.
Disabling previous notifications will now bring you a never-ending mix of feed for portable posts and ads. For users, the feature is a way to find new content and accounts to follow. For Instagram, the feature will increase the time spent on the app and provide more profitable advertising space.
TechCrunch reports that Instagram is backtracking on previous attempts to make its social media service addictive, perhaps due to the rise of rivals like TikTok, which use algorithms to deliver directly the type of content that interests its users for a long time.
"Our goal is to make it clear when you're all set so you can decide how you want to spend your time," Instagram product director Robby Stein told TechCrunch. "We see people continuing to search for more posts that they are interested in after receiving the feed, so we wanted to learn from that and make it easier to get deeper into those who chose to do so."
Instagram says the new Suggested Post feature is now being posted worldwide.
