YouTube Kids surfacing over 100 ‘After School’ movies over the next month

After coming to the web, Apple TV, and Fire TV in recent months, YouTube Kids is today launching a month of “After School” programming to help  parents keep children engaged amid COVID-19.

  It is increasingly difficult as a parent to choose the right content and how much of it is for our kids. That’s why we want to help you with a library of high quality full-length movies and specials that will enrich as well as entertain your children, and that you can enjoy along with them.

Until August 31, YouTube Kids will release over 100 movies and specials. Every Monday, this content will be surfaced in the “Shows” category as individual videos and playlists.

The app is geared for those 13 and under, with content split into the following groups:

  • Preschool (4 and under) is designed to allow kids to watch videos that promote creativity, playfulness, learning, and exploration.
  • Younger (5-7) is designed to allow kids to explore their interests and search for a wide variety of topics, including songs, cartoons, crafts, and more.
  • Older (8-12) is designed to allow kids with growing independence to search and explore additional music videos, gaming, family vlogs, science, and more.

From popular family movies and specials featuring Tayo the Little BusBaby Shark and PinkfongThe WigglesMasha And The BearOggy & the Cockroaches and Paddington, to a collection of the best animated short films anchored by Oscar-winning short film Hair Love, and a wide variety of educational specials including Sesame Street’s Elmo’s World News, produced in collaboration with the Lego Foundation, and selections from BBC Studios’ hit series, Hey Duggee

The app will also feature YouTube Originals content, as well as premiere a movie exclusively made for YouTube Kids, during the five weeks of After School programming.

YouTube is throwing parents who can’t take watching Frozen over and over anymore a lifeline. Over the next month until August 31st, YouTube Kids will release over 100 movies and specials as part of the platform’s “After School” experience project. In an announcement, Don Anderson, YouTube’s Head of Family & Learning Partnerships, explained that the service wants to help parents who are juggling work, life and their children at the same time due to work-from-home arrangements caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Especially since their kids may have to keep staying at home if they can’t go back to school yet.

Anderson wrote:

“[W]e want to help you with a library of high quality full-length movies and specials that will enrich as well as entertain your children, and that you can enjoy along with them.”


The new selection will include Tayo the Little Bus, Baby Shark and Pinkfong, The Wiggles, Masha And The Bear, Oggy & the Cockroaches and Paddington. Hair Love, which won Best Animated Short Film at the Oscars, will also be available along with a bunch of other shorts. There will also be educational specials, such as Sesame Street’s Elmo’s World News, and brand new movies and shows debuting on the platform. Parents can look forward to new content every week to keep their children entertained: YouTube Kids will surface all its After School content every Monday under the platform’s “Shows” category over the next five weeks.
